Pornstars and social-political environment

Looking at what factors determine whether a young woman will become a pornstar, we first examined geographical factors and the determinants of distance in particular. We established that geography does account for a certain part of the determination, the closer a girl is born to a main porn production centre, the bigger are the chances that she will become a pornstar.

Now this determinant wasn't perfect in many ways, in spite of strong negative correlations between distance from porn production centres (Los Angeles, Miami, New York) and porn star ratios per state. There must therefore be other determinants. 

The political colour of a State can say a lot about the set of values of its people and also explain why the main porn production centres are where they are. Values, especially those social values that you express in an election, can have a large impact on whether some women are going to chose to become pornstars. Dominant political stances on issues such as religion, gender equality and sex can be constituent of an atmosphere more or less prone to develop the ambition of embracing the porn career amongst young women. We're going to try to break down the different social and political variables that encourage or discourage women from the porn industry.

The control, or lack thereof, of women's bodies and human sexuality has been a political issue since the beginning of civilisation and still is today. What is acceptable in the social sphere, what is lawful and what is obscenity are all questions that can only be answered through social debate, and therefore a certain political ideology. And indeed, as we shall show, the dominant political ideologies have concrete consequences on what makes a State prone to porn.

A quick glance at the following 2 maps should give you an idea of how porn follows political and indeed social values, as expressd in politics. The first one shows the 2012 election results per State, the second shows the States in which the porn ratio is under or over average.

For 16 States, the Political affiliation does not match the pornstar ratio. 6 States were Republican in spite of having high pornstar ratios (Arizona, Alaska, Georgia, Montana, Idaho, Nebraska), while 10 States voted Democrat in spite of having low pornstar ratios (Minnesota, Iowa, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachussetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, Connecticut). Yet, for 34 States (2/3 of them), there seemed to be a link between political values and porn star ratios.

This lead to the assumption that girls who come from States with more liberal backgrounds should be more prone to become porntars than girls from conservative States.

We tested this on the State level within the USA, and indeed, it was possible to determine a few strong tendencies.

First of all, there are clear correlations between the degree of liberalism (data is percentage of people considering themselves as either "Liberal", "Moderate" or "Conservative" in a Pew poll from 2015) and the porn star ratios. These correlations are positive, meaning that more liberal states produce more pornstars than more conservative ones. The exact correlations between liberal values and porn star ratio was of R² = 0.39 (Pearson = 0.15). 

At the same time, conservative values were negatively correlated with pornstar ratios to a slightly lesser extent, with correlations of R² = -0.29 (Pearson = 0.08). If you then also split the people considering themselves as "moderate" 50/50 between liberals and conservatives, the correlations are even more convincing: Liberal + 50% of Moderates R² = 0.33 (Pearson = 0.11) and Conservative + 50% of Moderates R² = -0.35 (Pearson = 0.12).

We found close to no correlation: R²=0.07 (Pearson = 0.02) between Moderates (%) and porn star ratios.

If taken all together, as a ratio of liberals/conservative (measuring the importance of liberal values within the State), correlations with porn star ratios amount to R²=0.34 (Pearson = 0.12). These figures were used for the scatterplot beneath.

So the social-political environment explains approximately 10-15% of why some girls are more prone to become pornstars than others. The top 10 most liberal states represent 22.6% of the US population but nothing less than 38% of the pornstars. The top 10 most conservative states, on the other hand represent 11.4% of the US population but only 6.9% of the US pornstars.

If you go more into details, and break the states into different social-political categories (Very Conservative, Conservative, Moderate, Liberal, Very Liberal) to measure where the difference really takes place, you obtain some of the following figures.

• Liberal states produce up to 2x  more pornstars than Conservative states.
• Very Conservative States have very low pornstar ratios, approximately 25% inferior to the rest of the USA.
• The difference between Moderate States and Very Conservative States (9.2) is 2.25x larger than the difference between Moderate States and Very Liberal States (4).

This implies a few things. First of all, that there is a conservative threshold under which women are considerably less prone to become pornstars. All states where there are 2 conservatives for 1 liberal (cf vertical bar in scatterplot), porn production will be considerably smaller and the number of women becoming pornstars considerably lower. These states are situated in the South and in the Midwest.

Second teaching: once passed the conservative threshold, it doesn't make that much of a difference how liberal the place you live is. The more liberal, the more porn-prone, that is true, but to a much lesser extent than what could be expected. This also explains why the correlations aren't stronger. Some of the most porn-prone states, like Nevada (#1), Florida (#3), Arizona (#5) and Alaska (#7), are Moderate or very lightly Liberal States.

Third lesson : Considering the inertia power of the liberal ideology, leading to the fore-mentioned conclusion, it is actually surprising that Very Liberal States do not have higher pornstar ratios than they do. They're only slightly higher than Liberal States and Moderate States. This could mean that at the other end of the political spectrum (Very liberal, progressive values), there are also sociol-political forces working against the development of porn. These could for instance be feminism and/or socialism who would consider porn to be, respectively, an expression of a patriarcal society objectifying women and an expression of sexual exploitation of unpriviledged, poor women by a capitalist, sex-crazed society. This effect is particularly visible in the North-East, including New York.

This figure shows the political spectrum in regards to porn. It seems like only liberalism can really be the basic political set of values behind a sturdy porn production.

Socialism, that was measured through an index accounting for poll results and voting results of Sen. Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democratic Primary, showed no correlation, neither negative nor positive with the porn star ratio. Knowing that socialist ideas are often held by Liberal people (Liberal and Socialist ideas are correlated R² = 0.64 and Pearson = 0.40), and that Liberalism is correlated with pornstar ratios ( R² = 0.39, Pearson = 0.15), there should logically be a positive correlation between socialism and pornstar ratios. Yet, this is not the case, which proves that socialism as such has a negative effect on porn. You could even argue that also is a Socialist threshold: in States were socialists represent 25% (Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachussets...) or more off the population, there can't be any porn development and pornstars will be less prone to come from these states.

So the 2 main ideological schools that oppose porn are Conservatism (Religious, Traditional, Patriarcal...) and Socialism (Feminism, Social Justice...). If you add up the number of socialists and the number of conservatives within each state and correlates this with pornstar ratios, a R² = -0.36 Pearson = 0.13 correlation appears. This means that states that are either very conservative or very socialist, or both (like Idaho, New Hampshire or Wyoming, for instance) are less prone to produce pornstars.

Considering the 2 thresholds (Conservative and Socialist) only 22 states can be considered porn-prone (in light Blue), while 29 other States are not porn-prone (in dark Blue, "S" indicates it's due mainly to Socialism).

So Liberalism, both economic and social seems to be the best political background for porn. If you are born in of the 22 States that can be considered Soft Liberal or Moderately Liberal, you have a 50% larger chance of becoming a porn star than in any of the 29 other States. These 22 states produce 77% of the US pornstars in spite of only representing 56% of the nation's population. 

That liberalism is the political set of values that produce the most pornstars is as such not surprising. The idea that freedom prevails as long as nobody else is hurt fits very well to the porn industry.  No real porn industry can blossom in an area where "Live and Let Live" is not the dominant way of thinking. Liberalism is probably also more sexually permissive than both conservatism (and indeed religious conservatism) and socialism to a certain extent, allowing for the idea of becoming a pornstar to grow in the minds of young women. Now, even more progressist values, such as socialism; do also produce non negligeable amounts of pornstars, but to a lesser extent than liberal values. This could be due to feminist approaches, notably. Both liberal and progressist/socialist values produce more porn stars than conservative values, who tend to be much less permissive in sexual matters, as you can see in this table.

Pornstar Population Around The World

Even though we did already have a thorough geographical representation (cartogram format of the sizes of the different porn star populations around the world, I never gave you the exact figures. So here is the world ranking as of July 2016, counting all porntars within each country (active and retired).

Gaia

Sadly, porn is still illegal in Korea, so we don't get to see any Korean porn. But Korea has offered some great Korean pornstars to the porn industry, like Gaia. Gaia was born in 1983 in Gyeongsang, South Korea and moved from South Korea to Minnesota at a young age. She worked as an exotic dancer for some years in Las Vegas, where she still lives today, before entering the porn industry in 2006, at age 23. 

She's since worked for numerous prestigious US companies, such as Vivid Entertainment, Evil Angel or Hustler Video and has specialised notably in deepthroating (Throat Fucks 5, 2014), anal (with notably a famous Mike Adriano scene from Nasty Anal Tryouts 3), dominating and, to some extent, gangbangs, like this crazy public gangbang.

Apart from that, she's starred, not surprisingly in Asian-themed releases such as Asian Fuck Faces 3 (2013) or Asian Fucking Nation (2014). She's one of the most famous representatives of Korean porn and is today considered one of the most proeminent Asian and Korean pornstars. Her main assets include her massive 34D boobs, outstanding ass (for a Korean porntstar, at least) and provocative tatoos. Her acting style is also very provocative, with loads of dirty talk, spitting and sloppy gagging on dicks.

American Porn Star Boobs : Who Has The Biggest?

After the porn statistics about sizes of porn star boobs for all the major porn-producing countries, and detailing those porn statistics with the figures for asses, it was time to break the statistics down for the USA. The USA are the world leader in porn and home to around 50% of the world's porn stars, so it only seemed fair to post the boob statistics map for good ol' America. 

Compared to the porn statistics from around the world, the USA is, not surprisingly, somewhere above average, in a comfortable 6th position, averaging at 3,20 (3 being a C-cup, 4 being a D-cup). Within the USA, however, not all States are equal, ranging from a solid 4 for the District of Columbia (higher than World leader Sweden) to 2,17 for Idaho (approximately the average size for some of the lowest ranked countries, such as Ukraine).

Here's the overall map, where:

Spontaneously, this may seem like a rather random distribution, and it's hard to determine some major regions or consistencies. The porn statistics do however show that the Midwest has relatively smaller boobs, whereas pornstars from the North-East seem to have larger boobs.

This appears even clearer when put in to a map showing States under US average (yellow) and States over US average (red).

Shown in this fashion, a certain pattern seems to stand out, that you could call "The 3 Stripes". The first stripe, comprising everything West of a Seattle-Houston line, is an area with relatively bigger boobs. The second Stripe, covering everything between the Seattle-Houston line and a Michigan-Georgia line, is the zone where porn star boobs are the smallest. The boobs then get bigger again, actually to the biggest, East of that line, comprising the North-East and the most Northern of the Southern States.

This 3-Stripe model is of course not perfect, and some outliers can be identified. Arkansas for instance (#3) is in the middle of the small-boob Stripe, and West Virginia (#40) and Maine (#46) are within the Eastern big-boob zone. You could also add a 4th Stripe, separating Hawaii and Alaska from the Western Stripe.

Pornstars and Education in the USA

Are pornstars less educated than average Americans ?

The online controversy around Belle Knox, a math major at prestigious Duke Univeristy who also happened to be a pornstar (mainly to pay for her tuition), has somehow opened people's eyes about the topic and shown to many that you can both be a pornstar and a succesfull student, something that seemed unbelievable, if not disturbing to many people. This article will try to break that down, and by looking at porn statistics, provide some relevant information about the topic.

Even though porn scenes rarely permit the actresses to express the full expand of their education, to say the least, the general impression you get from watching porn is that these girls can't be that educated. Also, you could reasonably argue that going into the porn business does not require any diplomas, and is therefore more open to uneducated young women. Wikipedia, for instance, mentions « willingness to perform sexual acts » and « libido » as the only requirements to become a pornstar.

And yes, the statistics show indeed that there is a disproportionate amount of high-school drop-outs and girls who never even went to high school amongst pornstars. While 11,7% of the general population does not hold a high school degree, this figure rises to 34,4% among female pornstars. This can partly be explained by the « naturals », girls who knew from a young age that they wanted to be pornstars and therefore didn't care to finish high school or even attend one. The latter being statistically the most prevalent. Of the pornstars who did not get a high school diploma, only 10,3% actually dropped out of high-school, the remaining simply never went to high school. These « naturals » typically started their careers as soon as they turned 18. According to the statistics, they represent roughly 15% of all pornstars. But even with this characteristic particular to the porn industry taken into account, the drop-out rate for pornstars remains 8 percentage points above the general population.

However, once passed the age of going to high school, the gap between the two population groups progressively gets narrower. While 58,6% of the general population has « some college » experience, 45,9% of pornstars do too, thus narrowing the difference from 22,7 percentage points (in high school diplomas) to only 12,5 percentage points in this category. Put differently, pornstars, once their high school diploma secured, are more prone to actually go to college than the rest of the population. 66,4% of the general population holding a high-school degree went to college. This figure rises to 70% among pornstars.

And this trend continues further and intensifies. 31,9% of the general US population holds a Bachelor degree, meaning that only 55,6% of those who went to college actually finished their education there. In comparison, among pornstars, 30,6% holds a Bachelor degree, thus almost totally catching up with the general population, and 67,7% of the pornstars who went to college finished by getting their degree.

At the Master + level, however, the pornstars are less numerous, only 2,9% of pornstars hold a Master or a PhD, compared to 7,6% of the general population, thus widening the gap again. Only 1% of them hold a doctoral degree, compared to 1,7% of the general population Hower, it should be said that this could be skewed by the young age of most pornstars, as most PhD-holders obtain their degree around the age of 30, sometimes even later . Yet again, once engaged in a cycle, pornstars are more prone to actually finish their studies.

There could be various explanations for this. First of all, the cost of education in the USA and its direct consequences on students. While many students have to work long hours to pay for living expenses and tuition, pornstars have less time-consuming and better paid jobs, as pornstars. This allow them to balance work and studies better, the #1 reason why students drop out of college. For the most succesful of the pornstars, savings from their career could also pay their tuition without even having to work. This was notably the case for Belle Knox at Duke. It is also possible that having had to work from a young age, pornstars are more mature and generally more hard-working. It's also a possibility that for some of them, a college education was their way out of a life-style they do not wish to pursue further, thus granting them with a stronger incentive to succeed. A more optimistic hypothesis would be that «regular» students have an easier way finding contacts and jobs during their studies, and therefore put an end to them to start their careers before completion.

These results are confirmed by statistics on a holistic level as well. Comparing US States, we found a -0,17 (0,03 Pearson) correlation between high school completion and the pornstar ratio, meaning that the more people drop out of high school in a given State, the higher the relative number of pornstars in that State will be. At the same time, we also found a positive 0,16 (0,02 Pearson) correlation between Bachelor completion and pornstar ratio.

So the general perception of pornstars levels of education, or even intelligence, can be considered skewed due to the high number of pornstars who didn't go through high school. They do represent a big third of all pornstars, and some of the most famous pornstars, like Gianna Michaels or Jenna Jameson are part of them. However, pornstars show a strong tendency to actually complete the education cycles they engage in and do so more than the general population. It seems that paradoxically, having a job so far from abstract reasoning and academic rigour as porn, can actually be a powerful faciliator in the challenge of obtaining degrees. So parents, yes your daughter will be more at risk of becoming a pornstar if she does not attend high school, but if she doesn't, most likely it will be because she's a « natural » and would have picked the porn career path anyway, at some point. However, if you want your daughter to autonomously go through college and actually obtain a degree, her being a pornstar is by no means an obstacle, rather an advantage.

Natasha Nice

Natasha Nice, aka. Natasha Nyce was born in Fontenay-sous-Bois, in the eastern suburbs of Paris, in 1988. She moved to Los Angeles with her parents when she was 3. Geographic distributions II : Effects of distance, the Ripple effect vs the Strauss-Lévy effect

What impact does the geography of porn have on the aspiring pornstars? Is a woman more likely to become a pornstar if she grows up near a city where porn is produced? Or on the contrary, does the distance enhance her will to embrace that specific career and sort out only the most motivated? 

What has emerged from the statistics are two distinct models, or patterns, that modelise the attractivity of porn-producing cities on aspiring pornstars.

a) The Ripple effect

The ripple effect works like a drop of water in a lake. At the contact of the drop, the strong impact is going to create tiny waves that slowly die out in the water. The closer to the place of the impact, the stronger the wave, the further from the impact, the weaker the wave. Applied to porn statistics, this gives us a structure where the centre is going to have a very high pornstar density, the neighbouring areas are going to have a slightly less strong pornstar density and the pornstar density is going to decline progressively as the centre gets further away. To put it shortly, pornstar density is strongly negatively correlated with distance.

This phenomenon can be schematised in the following way, the red being the centre and the darkness of colour representing the pornstar density.

This model is dominant in the Americas, it applies to Canada, the USA and Brazil, notably. In the case of the USA, considering Los Angeles as the ultimate centre of porn-production, the model applies almost perfectly. It even resists a correlation test with proven results. Taking the distance between the capitals of the 9 states surrounding California and the pornstar densities of these 9 states, the negative correlation stands out clearly at -0.72, scoring 0.53 on the Pearson test. To put it in other terms, the further the states' capitals were from Los Angeles, the lower was the pornstar density. With the same exercice applied to Miami and 6 neighbouring states, the correlation results were quite close to the LA results: -0.73 (R²) and 0.19 (Pearson).

b) The Lévy-Strauss effect

This model is predominant in Europe and in Japan. It stipulates that the main centre of porn will have a high pornstar density, while its immediate hinterland will display a relatively low pornstar density. The pornstar density then gets higher and higher before reaching a density close or even higher than the one in the centre in the ultra-peripherical regions. In its most extreme form, this model is directly opposed to the Ripple effect, in the sense that distance will be positively correlated with pornstar density and not negatively correlated, like in the Ripple effect.

                                       

I gave the name of French anthropologist Claude Lévy-Strauss to this model, as he the first discovered and codified a similar pattern within the coupling models of exogamous primitive societies. In his model, the very centre (the enlarged family) and the furthest periphery ("foreign" tribes) were the two areas in which nobody was allowed to search for spouses. Partners could only be found in a sufficiently close, but yet not too close, groups of people. The opposite model is true for endogamous societies: they will in priority look for partners in the family (cousins notably) and then in foreign tribes, but not amongst other members of the same tribe. The porn industry works in the exact same way in countries where the Lévy-Strauss effect is prevalent: pornstars are to be found "close-up" in the very centre and "far away" in the furthest peripherical regions, but not in the space in between.  

This pattern, in its initial or its reverse form, has also been noticed in a number of other human behaviours and attitudes, such as racism. It was found indeed in France that racist voters were neither those who were in close-up contact with foreigners (typically big cities) nor those who almost never encountered foreigners (deeply rural areas), but typically the ones in between.

The Lévy-Strauss model is most perfectly represented in Japan. There, the centre of porn is Tokyo, in the Kanto region, displaying a pornstar density of 22.6. The immediate neighbouring regions to Kanto, Kansai and Chubu score respectively 5 and 3.2. The pornstar density then increases correlatively with the distance from Tokyo to reach the extremes of 24.8 for Okinawa (South) and 16.9 for Hokkaido (North). The correlation between the distance to the centre (excluding the centre itself) and the pornstar density amounted to an impressive R²=0.88 with a Pearson coefficient of 0.77.

France is another country that follows the Lévy-Strauss model, with a R²=0.54 (Pearson = 0.29) correlation between distance from the centre (Paris) and pornstar density.

Now, let's get back to our initial question "What variables explain that a woman becomes a pornstar ?". Geographic factors seem to be quite strong indeed, but not always in the ways you would expect. 

• One rather obvious observation that has been confirmed by our porn statistics is that if you're born in a porn production centre, you will be more prone to become a pornstar. This is universally true. Regardless of the country and the region of the world, the places where porn production is prevalent will also display high pornstar ratios: Paris, London, Tokyo, Barcelona, California are all examples of this.  
• In the Americas, it appears clearly that being born closer to a major porn production centre (such as Los Angeles or Miami) will indeed make you more likely to embrace the porn career. 
• In Europe and Japan, on the other hand, the correlation is somehow reversed, excepting the porn-producing centres. In these regions of the world, the further you are from the centre, the higher are your chances that you will become a pornstar. 
• This effect that I have named after Lévy-Strauss is particularly strong in centralised states, such as Japan, the United Kingdom and France, where the purely geographical factor adds up with economic factors to explain the prevalence of pornstars. In these countries indeed, economic development and prosperity are also lower the further you get away from the centre. In federal countries, such as Germany or Spain, this effect is less operational.

Geography and economics

The centre of Dutch porn is Rotterdam, located in the South-West (South Holland) of the country. The Netherlands seem to follow, once again, the Lévy-Strauss model : a centre with a relatively high pornstar density (Rotterdam,), surrounded by a circle of areas with a much lower pornstar density, with the the peripheries of the country displaying densities somewhere intermediate between the centre and its first circle. The Netherlands could however be considered an acentred country in the sense that the pornstar density is not that much higher in the centre than in the most peripherical regions, leading to a certain dispersion of the Dutch pornstars all over the territory. 

As for economic determinants, none of the usual variables seem to have any operational value in the Dutch case. Unemployment is by no means correlated (negatively nor positively) with the pornstar density. Neither is regional GDP/capita and median revenues. The explanation for the distribution of the Dutch pornstars thus seems to be solely geographical, even though there is slight positive correlation with the rate of urbanisation. 

Ethnic distribution

The Netherlands dominant model for pornstars is a white brunette, even though the number of blondes is relatively high. The redhead part of pornstars (6%) is, like in most other western countries, much higher than in the population and it is also the only ethnic type, like in many other countries, to have been in constant progress over the last years. The main ethnic minority represented in Dutch porn is the Latin minority (6%), followed by smaller contingents of Black (2%) and Asian (2%) sex performers.

The overall diversity index (chance that two pornstars of different ethnicities perform together) for the Netherlands is 0,13, but amounts to a sturdy 0.61 if white actresses of different hair colours are considered separate ethnicities.

Practices

The Dutch pornstars are #3 in Western Europe, after their Spanish and British counterparts, with an overall score of 16,7, which ranks them #17 out of 26 in the world. The Dutch present a very classic West-European, old-school profile in terms of practices. With the notable exception of Bondage, category in which the Dutch rank #7, the Dutch pornstars are more proeminent in rather classic categories such as Vintage (#6) and Lesbian (#11). In spite of a relatively good ranking in Anal (#11), the Dutch pornstars tend in general not to engage in other "hard" scenes, scoring very low both in Extreme and Hardcore, as well as in number-intense practices such as orgies or gangbangs.

Porn stars

Dutch pornstars are, bodily speaking, somewhere close to the world average, both in terms of boobs and asses. Somewhere just between the big tits and small asses of the Anglo-Saxon pornstars and the voluptous, curvy Southern European pornstars, the Dutch display however a slight preference for bigger tits, where they overseed both the French and the German. 28% of the Dutch pornstars have fake breasts, a relatively low percentage in Western Europe. 

40% of the Dutch pornstars have tatoos, ranking the country a respectable #9 worldwide.

Dutch pornstars go all the way from girl-next-door looks to the siliconed stereotype of a blonde bombshell of a slutty pornstar.

Taylor Sands

Taylor Sands aka. Heidi (on x-art), was born in Amsterdam in 1992. Her filmographic career began in 2014, at age 22, with the release of Education of a Young Maid by French producer Marc Dorcel. She's since starred in 18 films, mostly for Viv Thomas and Marc Dorcel. She's also done 6 scenes for x-art under the nickname "Heidi". She's a rather glamourous pornstar and the releases she stars in are mainly plot-based and high-budget films, such as her debut title or Gambling (2015) by Viv Thomas. She is an upcoming starlet who hasn't yet had the time to diversify her genres, by she's done a fair share of lesbian, boy/girl and solo performances. More recently, she's also done interracial scenes (Blacked, 2015) and anal (Ride me hard, 2014). Her smile, her perky boobs and her cute face are her main assets. She's probably the most promising newcomer in Dutch porn.

Bobbi Eden

Bobbi Eden aka Vixen de Ville, is still the safest value in Dutch porn and probably the Dutch pornstar who has starred in the highest number of films. She was born in The Hague in 1980 and began a softcore career as soon as she turned 18, in 1998, achieving notable fame as a runner-up for Dutch Penthouse Pet of the Year in 2000. Her hardcore career took off in 2002 with 18 and alone in Cleveland by K-Beech productions. She's since appeared in approximately 150 scenes, in most genres, including a great deal of solo performances, lesbian and anal-themed scenes. She's managed to go through all the stages in the career of a pornstar, starting in teen-themed films such as Sorority Babes 2 (2002) and finishing mainly in MILF-centred releases, such as MILFs In Heat 4 (2009). Her career has considerably slowed down since 2011 and she's been concentrating on her solo website BobbiEdenLive.com. She got mainstream media attention during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, promising blowjobs to the entire Dutch team if they won the competition. She got breast implants after some years in the industry (she's now a 34C). Her career has considerably slowed down since 2011. Bobbi Eden was awarded the Best Actress Award (Benelux) from European X in 2004 and was nominated for an AVN Award for best Solo Site in 2014. 

Chelsey Lanette

Chelsey Lanette was born in Vlissingen in 1991, starting her career in 2012, aged 21 with the film Be My Anal Lover by local DDF production, setting a certaine tone for the rest of her career: she's specialised in anal porn with titles such as DP Chicks 5 (2014) and Rocco's Perfect Slaves 1 (2013) alongside British Samantha Bentley. She's mainly worked for European companies but also appeared for 21 Sextury in 2014 Lipstick Romance and for Reality Kings in My Hot Roommate 11 (2015). Her popularity is due to her height (178 cm), long legs and model-like face. Another young and promising Dutch pornstar.

Dynamic

In spite of a sturdy national porn production, Dutch porn seems to be in decline, like most of the Western European countries. The growth of active pornstars actually showed negative figures last year, with a 2,2% recession. The overall growth of pornstars stagnated at 7,4%, around half of the world average. The percentage of pornstars who are aged 18-22 and therefore represent a chance for the future is the lowest in Western Europe, at 23,4 %, and it looks even worse when compared to the world average (37,7%). The Dutch however have relatively longer careers, which ensures them a correct share of active actresses, at 67%, way above the world average at 48%. Dutch porn is dying out, but dying out slowly.

Production

The Netherlands being one of the countries that legalised porn the first after Denmark, it has a long history with porn, reaching back to the 1970s. In the 1980s, Amsterdam-based Private Media corporation was one of Europe's finest and most dominant porn producers, before moving to Barcelona in 1992. Reminiscent of this era, one of the most popular Dutch porn producers is Club Seventeen, based in Uitgeest in North Holland and who's been producing porn since 1975. They notably do teen-releases, nowadays mostly with girls from Eastern Europe. Classmedia, owner of famous Oldje series is also based in the Netherlands, as well as Your Choice Productions.

Geographic distributions I : Monocentered, bicentered and polycentered countries

The 25 porn-producing countries in the world can be distributed into 3 categories of geographical distribution, as follows :

a) The monocentered countries

Most of the porn-producing countries that are unitary states, centered around a big city (most of the time, but not always, the capital) that concentrates political, economic and cultural power will also witness a concentration of their porn productions in this city. This leads to the emergence of a single centre of porn, characterised by a high pornstar density, higher salaries in the porn industry and, in most cases, an indigenous (Paris, London, Tokyo...) and/or an imported porn industry (Budapest, Prague...). In countries where the local porn industry is nascent or almost inexisting (Slovakia, Romania...) these cities will often be home to amateur productions and be platforms to export aspiring pornstars to cities with a sounder porn industry.

b) The bicentered countries

Federal states, on the other hand, tend to have several centres of porn production. However, porn being a very competitive and concentration-prone activity, must of these countries only have 2 poles where porn is produced. These countries include Germany (Hamburg and Berlin), Russia (Moscow and St Petersburg), Canada (Montreal and Vancouver) and Spain (Barcelona and Madrid). 

c) The polycentered countries

Of all the porn-producing countries in the world, only the USA can be considered a proper polycentered one. The USA do indeed have a single centre that stands out : Los Angeles, but also a relatively high number of other cities who also present a indigenous porn production and a high porn star density. These include Miami, Las Vegas, San Diego, Chicago, Phoenix, Scottsdale and New York City. A number of other countries could be considered to polycentered, or acentred, in the sense that they display no real center, but rather a quite homogenous distribution of their porn producers and their pornstars. These include Italy (with 12% of the Italian pornstars, Torino is the main centre, but not to a point where it could be called a monocentred situation), Brazil (Rio de Janeiro counts for 19% of the Brazilian pornstars), Colombia (where pornstars tend to come more from smaller provincial cities than from the capital Bogota). Whether you consider that these countries therefore have several porn centres (polycentered) or that the have none (acentred), they stand out from the patterns generally observed.
