Geography and economics

The centre of Dutch porn is Rotterdam, located in the South-West (South Holland) of the country. The Netherlands seem to follow, once again, the Lévy-Strauss model : a centre with a relatively high pornstar density (Rotterdam,), surrounded by a circle of areas with a much lower pornstar density, with the the peripheries of the country displaying densities somewhere intermediate between the centre and its first circle. The Netherlands could however be considered an acentred country in the sense that the pornstar density is not that much higher in the centre than in the most peripherical regions, leading to a certain dispersion of the Dutch pornstars all over the territory. 

As for economic determinants, none of the usual variables seem to have any operational value in the Dutch case. Unemployment is by no means correlated (negatively nor positively) with the pornstar density. Neither is regional GDP/capita and median revenues. The explanation for the distribution of the Dutch pornstars thus seems to be solely geographical, even though there is slight positive correlation with the rate of urbanisation. 

Ethnic distribution

The Netherlands dominant model for pornstars is a white brunette, even though the number of blondes is relatively high. The redhead part of pornstars (6%) is, like in most other western countries, much higher than in the population and it is also the only ethnic type, like in many other countries, to have been in constant progress over the last years. The main ethnic minority represented in Dutch porn is the Latin minority (6%), followed by smaller contingents of Black (2%) and Asian (2%) sex performers.

The overall diversity index (chance that two pornstars of different ethnicities perform together) for the Netherlands is 0,13, but amounts to a sturdy 0.61 if white actresses of different hair colours are considered separate ethnicities.

Practices

The Dutch pornstars are #3 in Western Europe, after their Spanish and British counterparts, with an overall score of 16,7, which ranks them #17 out of 26 in the world. The Dutch present a very classic West-European, old-school profile in terms of practices. With the notable exception of Bondage, category in which the Dutch rank #7, the Dutch pornstars are more proeminent in rather classic categories such as Vintage (#6) and Lesbian (#11). In spite of a relatively good ranking in Anal (#11), the Dutch pornstars tend in general not to engage in other "hard" scenes, scoring very low both in Extreme and Hardcore, as well as in number-intense practices such as orgies or gangbangs.

Dutch pornstars are, bodily speaking, somewhere close to the world average, both in terms of boobs and asses. Somewhere just between the big tits and small asses of the Anglo-Saxon pornstars and the voluptous, curvy Southern European pornstars, the Dutch display however a slight preference for bigger tits, where they overseed both the French and the German. 28% of the Dutch pornstars have fake breasts, a relatively low percentage in Western Europe.

Bobbi Eden aka Vixen de Ville, is still the safest value in Dutch porn and probably the Dutch pornstar who has starred in the highest number of films. She was born in The Hague in 1980 and began a softcore career as soon as she turned 18, in 1998, achieving notable fame as a runner-up for Dutch Penthouse Pet of the Year in 2000. Her hardcore career took off in 2002 with 18 and alone in Cleveland by K-Beech productions. Dynamic

In spite of a sturdy national porn production, Dutch porn seems to be in decline, like most of the Western European countries. The growth of active pornstars actually showed negative figures last year, with a 2,2% recession. The overall growth of pornstars stagnated at 7,4%, around half of the world average. The percentage of pornstars who are aged 18-22 and therefore represent a chance for the future is the lowest in Western Europe, at 23,4 %, and it looks even worse when compared to the world average (37,7%). The Dutch however have relatively longer careers, which ensures them a correct share of active actresses, at 67%, way above the world average at 48%. Dutch porn is dying out, but dying out slowly.

Production

The Netherlands being one of the countries that legalised porn the first after Denmark, it has a long history with porn, reaching back to the 1970s. In the 1980s, Amsterdam-based Private Media corporation was one of Europe's finest and most dominant porn producers, before moving to Barcelona in 1992. Reminiscent of this era, one of the most popular Dutch porn producers is Club Seventeen, based in Uitgeest in North Holland and who's been producing porn since 1975. They notably do teen-releases, nowadays mostly with girls from Eastern Europe. Classmedia, owner of famous Oldje series is also based in the Netherlands, as well as Your Choice Productions.

10 Slovakian porn stars are from the capital, Bratislava, representing 26% of the country's porn stars. Otherwise, statistics show that the geographical distribution of Slovakian porn stars is rather homogenous on the Slovakian territory: all regions contribute, which makes Slovakia an exception in Eastern Europe. The relatively low concentration of pornstars in the capital, notably compared with the figures of the Czech Republic (40% of Czech pornstars are from Prague), of Romania (50% of Romanian pornstars are from capital Bucarest) or of Hungary (90% of Hungarian pornstars are from Budapest). However, due to the high concentration of wealth and pornstars in Bratislava, the porn star ratio is highly positively correlated (R²=0.68, Pearson = 0.47) with household revenue and negatively correlated with unemployement (R²= -0.64, Pearson = 0.41), meaning that the regions who produce pornstars are mainly the richest ones (Bratislava in particular). When Bratislava is removed from the study, we obtain a correlation between household incomes and pornstar ratios, that is however much weaker (R²= -0.22, Pearson = 0.05), but a substantial correlation between unemployement and porn star ratios (R² = 0.39, Pearson = 0.15), suggesting that unemployement does play a role in determining the number of pornstars coming from one region. In general however, the two main pron-producing regions, Trencin and Bratislava, are amongst the richest regions of Slovakia, suggesting that there is a double effect: on one side, relatively rich middle-class girls from these areas engage in porn for non-economic reasons, whereas a substantial number of girls from the provinces engage in porn because of the lack of employement perspectives.

Ethnic distribution

Slovakia's pornstars are all Caucasian, with a predominant brunette type, accounting for 77% of the pornstars. This gives Slovakia a diversity index of 0.00 (0.35 if brunette/blonde are counted as different ethnicities), one of Slovakian porn's weaknesses.

Practices

Slovakia presents extremely good performances in terms of variety of practices. Not only is Slovakia #1 worldwide all categories included, but the Slovakian porn performers also score above average in litterally all categories, except Squirting. They're #1 in 5 categories (Orgy, Blowjob, Cumshot, Lesbian, Facial) and in the top 3 in 4 other categories (Party, Group Sex, Anal, Hardcore). Their overall score is 29,7% (world average = 17,8%). A local specialisation is notably scenes in which the participation of a large number of actresses is required, such as lesbian orgies and party-themed scenes. These outstanding performances can be explained by the absence of a proper Slovakian porn industry. Most Slovakian girls perform in Prague, Budapest, Paris or in the USA, and must therefore do more to become popular. In general Eastern European pornstars have higher practice performances than the rest of the world, of which Slovakia is a very potent example. This could be explained by the relatively late arrival of these countries in the world economy of porn (1990s), meaning that to impose themselves, in the absence of silicone breasts and proficiency in English, these girls had to simply do a larger variety of genres and notably specialise in the most hardcore ones. The relatively low salary in Eastern Europe also explains why these countries score so well in group-related practices, as most scenes requiring large number of actresses are nowadays shot in Eastern Europe.

Porn stars

Slovakian porn stars are very representative of Eastern European pornstars in general. A relatively low percentage of fake breasts (21.9%), resulting in some of smallest boobs in porn (only Russian, Ukrainian and Thai pornstars have smaller tits), with an average small B-cup. In terms of ass, however, Slovakia perform well for an Eastern European country, with larger booties than the French, the Colombians and the Dutch, for instance. Slovakian pornstars are generally rather natural, with only 30.8% of them having tatoos (#19 wordwide, world average = 35.4%).

In spite of Slovakia's incredible practice performances, Slovakian porn is slowly fading out as a major activity and Slovakia has been in decline compared to other countries over the last years. With an average growth of 19.5% over the last 5 years and only 12.5% of active pornstars being aged 18-22, Slovakia is losing ground to other competitors. The future of Slovakian porn looks rather bleak in this regard.

Diana Doll

Diana Doll, aka. Sue Diamond, was born in 1976 in Liptovsky Minulas, in Central Slovakia. She started her career in 2001 in the Hustler release Brazilian Snake, as part of the Slovakian generation promoted by Hustler, also including Angel Dark and Nikita Valentin. Slovakia doesn't have any major indigenous porn production companies. However, numerous foreign companies have been shooting in Bratislava, including American Hustler and Spanish Private. Most Slovakian pornstars work in Budapest, Prague, Barcelona or Paris, with a few of the most notable (Angel Dark, Diana Doll, Natalli Di Angelo, Claudia Rossi...) having made it to the most famous American companies. Romanian pornstars mainly come from Bucharest, the country's capital, that was the birthplace for approximately 50% of them. Romanian pornstars engage in a very large variety of porn genres. They're #3 around the world in the diversity of their practices, only behind neighbours Slovakia and Ukraine. Australia's pornstars are mainly white (93%), with a majority of blondes. Notice once gain the relatively high number of redheads. The overal diveristy index of Australian porn is 0.61.

Geography and socioeconomics

The heartland of Italian porn, unlike most other countries, doesn't lie within its largest cities, such as Rome or Milan. The highest densities of pornstars are to be found in smaller cities, such as Firenze, Genoa or Torino. The most highest concentrations of pornstars can be found in what is typically called the "Red regions" in Northern Central Italy, spanning from Eastern Liguria to Marche going through Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. These regions are well-known to be less religious, more urbanised, politically more left-leaning and globally more liberal, which explains their dominant position in the production of Italian porn. In these areas, the PD and its allies (centre-left) are still dominant, leading to a relatively solid correlation between moderate left-wing electoral scores and pornstar ratios in Italy : .31 (R²=.09). Reversly, right-wing and far-right regions display a negative correlation of similar pertinence at, respectively, -.30 (R²= .09) and -.24 (R²=.06). More interesting is the negative correlation between Moviemento 5 Stelle's scores and the pornstar ratios, amounting to -.21 (R²=.04). This negative relationship, even though not very significant, already hints at other major conclusions about Italian porn.

First of all, and to finish the political side of the analysis, there is almost no significance to the divide between "mainstream" parties and "protest parties". The traditional, centrist, government parties' scores do not correlate significantly with porn star density. The electoral scores of extremist and/or protest parties don't neither. Which leads us to economics. Protest parties being mainly supported by unemployed and/or people living in poverty, the correlations between rates of unemployement, youth unemployment and poverty unsurprisingly correlated negatively with pornstar density. All economic factors taken into account display similar figures

The distribution of pornstars in Italy actually obeys massively to the two main variables we've identified around the world : urbanisation and irreligiosity. The pornstar ratios correlate with rates of urbanisation at a staggering .68 (R²= .48), due notably to the low ratios in the rural Southern parts of the country. Irreligiosity also plays a large role with a correlation at .46 (R²=.21), explaining also why the capital region, Lazio, the centre of Christianity and Catholicism, displays such a low pornstar ratio.
