The heartland of Italian porn, unlike most other countries, doesn't lie within its largest cities, such as Rome or Milan. The highest densities of pornstars are to be found in smaller cities, such as Firenze, Genoa or Torino. The most highest concentrations of pornstars can be found in what is typically called the "Red regions" in Northern Central Italy, spanning from Eastern Liguria to Marche going through Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. These regions are well-known to be less religious, more urbanised, politically more left-leaning and globally more liberal, which explains their dominant position in the production of Italian porn. In these areas, the PD and its allies (centre-left) are still dominant, leading to a relatively solid correlation between moderate left-wing electoral scores and pornstar ratios in Italy : .31 (R²=.09). Reversly, right-wing and far-right regions display a negative correlation of similar pertinence at, respectively, -.30 (R²= .09) and -.24 (R²=.06). More interesting is the negative correlation between Moviemento 5 Stelle's scores and the pornstar ratios, amounting to -.21 (R²=.04). This negative relationship, even though not very significant, already hints at other major conclusions about Italian porn.

First of all, and to finish the political side of the analysis, there is almost no significance to the divide between "mainstream" parties and "protest parties". The traditional, centrist, government parties' scores do not correlate significantly with porn star density. The electoral scores of extremist and/or protest parties don't neither. Which leads us to economics. Protest parties being mainly supported by unemployed and/or people living in poverty, the correlations between rates of unemployement, youth unemployment and poverty unsurprisingly correlated negatively with pornstar density. All economic factors taken into account display similar figures

The distribution of pornstars in Italy actually obeys massively to the two main variables we've identified around the world : urbanisation and irreligiosity. The pornstar ratios correlate with rates of urbanisation at a staggering .68 (R²= .48), due notably to the low ratios in the rural Southern parts of the country. Irreligiosity also plays a large role with a correlation at .46 (R²=.21), explaining also why the capital region, Lazio, the centre of Christianity and Catholicism, displays such a low pornstar ratio.
